PART TIME GREEN - Nail Polish, what you know can hurt you
Nail Polish, what you know can hurt you
Links to birth Defects

Nail polishes have come under fire lately for containing three chemicals dubbed the "toxic trio"

Rising concern over the health effects that the toxic trio pose to both nail salon workers and to average women led the European Union to ban them from use in cosmetics in 2004. The U.S. has no such legislation

The three nail polish ingredients to avoid are:

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Recognized carcinogen linked to birth defects and

Formaldehyde. Known human carcinogen is an irritant to the eyes

Toluene.  When this volatile chemical is released into the air, it causes symptoms of headache, dizziness, fatigue

If you have to choose a nail polish, try choosing a variety that contains the least amount of harmful toxins as possible. Always apply polish in a well ventilated area.

For the least risk, seek alternatives wherever possible.
