PART TIME GREEN - Cooling and heating
Cooling and heating
on the cheap

There are several tried-and-true techniques that can help you cool down your house to eliminate the need for A/C or reduce the strain on your air conditioning system and furnace.  Some of these are immediate and inexpensive, while others require a bit of time and investment.

Air conditioners can use up to 1/6th of U.S. electricity and, on hot summer days, consume 43% of the U.S. peak power load. According to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Insulation: Insulating, caulking and weather-stripping are essential to keeping your home warm in cold climates, but they also help keep your home cool in hot weather.

Shading: Shading is the simplest, most effective way to cool your home and reduce energy consumption.

Ceiling Fans: Ceiling fans are efficient and use little electricity. Can help heat and cool.

Programmable Thermostats: You can save as much as 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills

Simple ideas to save you money.
